There are a lot of people who can help you learn more about yourself. There are wonderful friends, professionals and teachers out there that can help you to go over your thoughts and feelings.
You should seek to be surrounded by like-minded people. The right people will help you stay motivated to pursue your goals. Avoid people who have no respect for what you are trying to achieve.
In personal development, when you avoid making a decision, you also avoid seizing an opportunity. Make decisions based on your own knowledge and what you can learn from your research. Good instincts are the result of successful decisions. Even decisions that don’t turn out as you would have liked are valuable because you still learn from the experiences they give you. A wrong choice only ensures that your next choice will be better.
There are plenty of great books on self improvement available. Many of the best-selling books offer page after page of useful, and possibly life-changing, ideas and insight. Make sure you select a book which has a few good reviews because some books in the self improvement genre can be very badly written.
Praise others, flatter them, and show your appreciation. It is actually better to turn the other cheek and be nice to others.
Come up with a little pep talk for yourself. List all your great attributes on an index card. Keep the card in your purse or wallet, and pull it out every time you feel depressed and defeated or have a negative thought about yourself. You might even consider recording the mantra in your own voice, so that you can play it back at any time. The reason to watch the video or read the postcard as often as possible is to remind yourself of how wonderful you think you are.
Try to always make every day better than the one before. Discover innovative ways to increase your character development. Each day, make sure that you perform better than you ever have before.
Try to spend less time bragging about your own accomplishments, and take the time to ask people about what they’ve done. You will be amazed to hear some of the wonderful and interesting things the people around you have done in their lives, and you will earn new respect for them by understanding their true character.
Unless you are self-sufficient, you cannot expect to be able to care for another person. No matter how much progress you have made in your personal development, always make resting and restoring yourself a top priority.
Ignore social status and instrumental gain and treat everyone equally, unless they have actually done something to earn your scorn. How they are treated speaks more of you than them.
Go to the movies with a friend. This gives you the opportunity to engage in a social activity that does not have a lot of risk. This will help get you used to being in the same vicinity with lots of different people.
Perhaps you have set high goals for yourself and keep failing to attain them. If this is the case, it is a good idea to stop and think why. Take a little time to research what others have done when their goals were similar. You might be able to mimic some of their ideas or learn from their successes. The problem may be that you have unreal expectations, that you judge yourself too harshly or that you need to try a different route.
It’s possible to teach yourself how you can deal with difficult situations without becoming too emotional. By learning how to remain calm during stressful situations, you have a higher chance of increasing your confidence needed for conquering any obstacle in your life. Learning to breathe deeply upon command can give you back your sense of control.
Figuring out who you are as a person, aside from how others view you, is a great achievement. Treat yourself as you would treat a dear friend–generously, kindly and honestly.
